Before beginning the Hyperstat provisioning process, you will need the following components:
- Flash Station PC
- Atmel-ICE tool
- Test Smart Node
- Test Wall Sensor
- Philips Screwdriver
Step 1: Powering and connecting the DPS
Remove the DPS from its box
Remove the front face of the DPS by unscrewing the two screws on the back of the device:
Next, prepare the Smart Node for supplying power. Connect the Smart Node to a 24V power supply, then connect an 18" 3-pin cable. Also, have a Wall Sensor prepared with its own 18" 3-pin cable.
Connect the DPS inline with the two 3-pin cables as shown below. Ensure that the port labeled DPS_IN is connected to the Smart Node, and the port labeled DPS_OUT is connected to the Wall Sensor:
Step 2: Flash the DPS
Connect the Atmel-ICE programming cable to the 10-pin connector on the DPS PCB, as shown below:
Ensure that the 10-pin programming cable is connected to the AVR port on the Atmel-ICE tool.
The connection is polar; if the following step fails you may need to reorient the connector.
Turn on power to the Smart Node.
The DPS flashing process currently uses Microchip Studio. Locate the Microchip Studio icon on your desktop, and open the program.
In Microchip Studio, navigate to the Tools drop-down in the top menu, and select the Device Programming option.
In the window that opens, ensure that the Tool is set to Atmel-ICE, and the Device is set to ATtiny85, then click Apply.
Next, click Read next to Device Signature, and ensure that a hexadecimal address appears. If there is an error at this stage, re-check your connection between the Atmel-ICE tool and the DPS.
Next, click the Memories tab on the list of options to the left:
Ensure that the Flash (8KB) field lists the current firmware version, and click Program:
Programming has been successfully completed when the bottom field shows the following:
At this time, disconnect the Atmel-ICE cable from the DPS.
Step 3: Testing the DPS
You should have the Smart Node still powered on and the cables connected as per the previous step.
On the Smart Node, navigate to the inputs screen by pressing the right button once. There, verify that you are getting temperature and humidity data from the Wall Sensor. This verifies the DPS communication functionality.
Step 4: Repackage the DPS
If the above test was successful, you can now disconnect the DPS from the cables. Reattach the front face using the two screws, and repackage the DPS in its box, ensuring that the cardboard insert is properly set as shown below:
